Dr Joseph S. Petrey maintains an active clinical private practice, Petrey & Newcomb Orthodontics, with his partner Dr John Newcomb in Somerset, Corbin, and Hazard, KY. He is a clinician, researcher, lecturer, and author of numerous orthodontic related articles covering TADs, lingual orthodontics, treatment modalities including impacted canines, and practice promotion. Dr Petrey received his Masters in Public Health, DMD, Masters in Science, and Orthodontic training from the University of Kentucky. His lectures and articles on TADs have focused on TAD insertion technique and design & application in clinical practice, as well as in their use for bone and space maintenance for patients with missing teeth. Through his research and clinical experience, Dr Petrey has also contributed to several TAD clinical reference guides, print articles, and in TAD design and develop-ment. Dr Petrey lectures nationally on optimal TAD insertion techniques for success, as well as innovative applications of TADs, appropriate TAD mechanics, and the use of TADs with lingual appliances, as well as lectures on traditional orthodontic treatment, treatment planning, and general practice principles.
Dr Costa graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, in 1974. He received his D.M.D. degree from the Medical University of South Carolina as first honor graduate and recipient of the “Golden Hands Award” in 1979. He went on to complete his Oral and Maxillofacial surgery training at the Medical University of Alabama, College of Dental Medicine. He attended medical school and received his M.D. degree from the Medical University of Alabama and was the recipient of The Special Award for Academic Scholarship graduating with a 4.0 GPA. He subsequently performed his internship in general surgery and his head and neck surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr Costa completed his academic training with a fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery through the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr Costa is a clinical professor in Plastic Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina and a clinical professor of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the Medical University of Alabama. In private practice, he is the Director and Chief Surgeon of the Southeastern Facial Plastic/Cosmetic Surgery Center. Dr Costa lectures extensively across the nation on the interdisciplinary treatment of facial aesthetics. His practice is limited to facial plastic surgery and he performs over 700 procedures annually. He is the immediate Past President of the South Carolina Board of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
